Village Sign Designed by Local Artist
Village resident and local artist, Barbara Lakin, designed our village sign in a competition held amongst residents. There were quite a few amazing entries but Barbara’s sign was the one chosen as the winner.
Barbara says her inspiration came from the gazebos, beautiful mature trees, the church building which evoked memories of taking her grandson to the toddler group, and the hospital conversions and their intriguing histories of the people who once lived there. There were other elements to consider too, the former Admissions building now the Venezia restaurant, the edible orchard, the woods, the children’s playground as well as the Tennis and Bowls clubs. The problem was how to achieve an essential feel about the village. Barbara knew that if she put an Oak Tree in the middle of the image there wouldn’t be much room for anything else, so she decided to create a leafy canopy enclosing the church, hospital conversions with a central recognizable gazebo.
We hope you agree that Barbara’s design is perfect for our village.
