Land at Upper Saxondale
When David Wilson Homes (DWH) completed the development at Upper Saxondale, they transferred some land to the Residents’ Association (USRA) with conditions attached including a right of pre-emption. In April 2024, the land was transferred from USRA to the Upper Saxondale Parish Council (USPC). The land now owned by USPC, for which it is responsible for, includes:
The village hall, tennis courts, car park and surrounding land
The nature trail adjacent to the hall and tennis courts
The fruit orchard and soft fruit garden
The children’s play park was built through the sterling efforts of a group of local residents who raised funds and successfully applied for grants. This now also the responsibility of USPC.
DWH still owns the remaining undeveloped land and is responsible for maintaining it under an agreement with Rushcliffe Borough Council (RBC) that was entered into when planning permission for the development was granted. In practice DWH uses a contractor for the upkeep of its land. DWH and USPC are currently in discussion to transfer ownership of the land to USPC. The land includes:
The parkland contained within the perimeter of Westminster Drive, Buckingham Drive and the lane that runs past the village hall and the bowls club – this includes the gazebos
The land to the left of Saxondale Drive going down the hill, including the ‘bowl’ area
The land between Pimlico Close and the rear of the houses on Henson Lane
Other small pieces of land such as at the junction of Hammersmith Close and Queen Mary’s Close, and at the junction of Westminster Drive and Berkeley Crescent
