Land at Upper Saxondale
After David Wilson Homes (DWH) completed the development at Upper Saxondale they were successfully lobbied by the Upper Saxondale Residents’ Association (USRA), and transferred a parcel of land to USRA with conditions attached. In April 2024, this USRA owned land to the south side of Back Lane was transferred to Upper Saxondale Parish Council (USPC), this land includes:
The village hall, tennis courts, car park and surrounding land
The woodland walk adjacent to the hall and tennis courts
The fruit orchard and forest garden
The children’s playpark, which was built through the sterling efforts of a group of local residents who raised funds and successfully applied for grants
At that stage, DWH still owned their remaining land.
Then in December 2024, DWH transferred their land to USPC. This followed a fairly lengthy period of negotiations to agree the transfer deed and covenants, initiated by USRA and concluded by USPC.
This means that areas of land around the village, such as the parkland, Millennium Walk, the ‘bowl' area alongside Saxondale Drive and other pieces of land along Westminster Drive and elsewhere, now come under the management of USPC. As part of the land transfer DWH agreed to pay a sum of money to provide for the ongoing management of the land.
This map, drawn over 10-years ago, shows ownership of land prior to April 2024. All of this land has now been transferred to USPC along with responsibility for the maintenance of the children’s playpark.
